Slavkov Castle is the historical symbol of the small town of Slavkov near Brno, which is located in the South Moravian Region, in the Czech county of Vishkov. A baroque manor house, Slavkov is situated in the beautiful countryside just outside Brno.With the beautiful castle of Troy into the same suburb of Prague, they are both connected to the architect, Bomb.

Slavkov Castle is also known as Austerlitz. This is the former name in German, which is associated with the Battle of Austerlitz. This battle was known as the Battle of Third Emperors - France, Austria and Russia , which began on December 2, 1805.

It involved forces numbering about 140, 000. The number of dead and injured exceeded 35, 000. The Battle of Austerlitz ended with a victory for Napoleon and the castle was signed truce between the emperors of France and Austria.

Slavkov Castle is among the oldest mansions in Moravia. According to historical texts written, the history of the castle was around in the 13 century, during which time the Order of Teutonic Knights were residents.

The current castle was rebuilt in the late 16th century during the reign of Ulrich III and was built on the foundations of the old architectural design consisting of four wings with arcades and huge prismatic tower.

Today the castle is a museum. In celebration of 200th anniversary of the Battle of Austerlitz the museum organized a reproduction of the most interesting moments in the history of the castle. Today the museum displays a video of proigranata reconstruction of the battle. In 2008, Slavkov Castle and its grounds were listed as National Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic.

Currently, almost the entire first floor is accessible to the public. Here you can see the preserved huge gallery, which was designed in the first half of 17 century. The picture gallery in the castle was designed in the second half of the 18 century when the ownersof the castle were the Kounic family.

The gallery not only contains copies, but also original works of famous European masters. However, by late 19 th century as a consequence of a fire, sales and lost vast wealth of the gallery has been significantly reduced. Today you still can see portraits of members of the Kounic family.
