Stone Carvings in Kakadu National Park

With nearly 20, 000 square kilometers, Kakadu National Park is the largest natural protected area across the Australian continent. According to many opinions, it ranks among the most beautiful national parks of our planet.

Since 1992, the whole area is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kakadu National Park can be reached by car or by organized tourist visits from the nearest city - Darwin. It is at a distance of 171 km. from 'Cockatoo". Its whole area is located in northern Australia.

The name Cockatoo comes from a local aborigines dialect that was spoken in the early 20th century in the northern area of the park. Today, descendants of these tribes have preserved this language, but use it significantly less. These lands preserve the largest aborigines samples of rock art in the form of drawings.

Nourlangie Rocks, Kakadu National Park

Attractive stone galleries can be seen in Nourlangie Rocks, Ubirr. In general, the art of local tribes has been preserved in over 5, 000 places and paintings there date from different eras. The local towns have the opportunity to rent a helicopter or small aircraft, with which can be seen if not all, at least a significant part of Kakadu National Park.

In this area falls the natural basin of South Alligator River, which is famous for its large population of crocodiles. In these lands can be seen large eucalyptus forests, tropical rainforests and vast prairie areas.

Kakadu National Park is home to many ecosystems. In these lands there are two types of crocodiles, which are quite dangerous. Johnston crocodiles inhabit areas of water bodies and eat mostly fish. However salt water crocodiles are considered the largest reptiles on the planet. They inhabit both freshwater and salt water. With a length of 6 meters, they are extremely dangerous and often attack unwary travelers.
