Tombs of Qutb Shahi in Hyderabad

The tombs of legendary rulers like Qutb Shahi, are in the northern part of another memorable landmark in the Indian city of Hyderabad near Golconda fort.

Planned and built by the kings of the dynasty, Qutb Shahi themselves, these tombs are now considered the oldest historical monuments in exotic Hyderabad. The mausoleums are actually a complex of magnificent buildings with large round domes and exquisite architecture. Smaller buildings are one storey, while the larger ones consist of two floors.

Under the dome of each building is a sarcophagus of a representative of Dynasty Qutb Shahi. There is also a tomb in which they lay associates of the royal family . To distinguish them, the buildings with the descendants of Qutb Shahi were overlaid with gold on the domes.

Among all the monuments most clearly stands the tomb of Hayat perks - the daughter of Muhammed Quli Qutub Shahe - founder of Hyderabad, and its symbol - the majestic Charminar Mosque.

Another popular mausoleum is that of Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah, who actually put the tradition of erecting magnificent buildings in the beautiful Indian city. His tomb and the others in the complex is a rectangular, sculpted with fancy arches. Originally domes of the tombs have been overlaid with blue and green tiles of which now only remains can be found.

These mausoleums were built in 16 and 17 century. All the tombs are similar in their architectural implementation. The interior of the tombs themselves, however, is quite scarce. In practice, inside, the mausoleums are empty. Years ago, inside them there was lavish carpets, candles, chandeliers. Inside were performed religious services and scriptures were recited. Today, however, their condition is rather shabby. By contrast, around the monuments are extensive and very well maintained gardens.

Despite the attacks of nature and people, the Indian burial grounds remain a valuable cultural heritage of Hyderabad. By caring for their local honor, its founders, expressed their admiration to the story. On the other hand mausoleums are adequately kept for tourists to get acquainted with the traditions and the fate of the ancient Indian city and to enjoy its culture and beautiful architecture.

Genus Qutb Shahi, who ruled Golconda more than 170 years, became famous as the largest builder of his time.

Buildings are built in Persian and Hindu architectural style. Elegant plaster ornaments give the attractive appearance of the interior and exterior of tombs.

Historians say that Hyderabad is the only place in the world, which has all members of a dynasty ruler buried in one place - the tombs of the Qutb Shahi .

Mausoleums are open for visits every day from 09:30 to 4:40.
