Taos Pueblo
Taos Pueblo is a quaint New Mexico town, in the U.S. This town is located just two hours drive from Santa Fe. This is a city of the eclectic, and this is in every respect. Here one can relax, have fun, pursue their favourite sport, examine historical sights, but mostly it is a city of arts- being famous for its artists.
Several cultural communities have passed through these lands, and each has left something of themselves. Today, the mixed culture is felt in the food, music, architecture, art, dance and festivals here in Taos.
Perhaps the most remarkable tourist attraction here is Taos Pueblo, which is the old city of the Pueblo Indian tribe. These are reserved and occupied red brown adobe houses and buildings in which more than 1000 members of the tribe lived. The indian complex was built between 1000 and 1450 sl.ne.e. Rio Pueblo, which is about 2 km from the modern Taos. Indian buildings have been declared World Heritage by UNESCO and national historic monument by the U.S. government.
One other nice opportunities for rest are further downhill. The mountainous area around Taos, Also known as Twining, is about 30 km north of the town in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Ski conditions here are perfect, the snow is soft and fluffy, and resorts are not crowded with tourists. Besides this sport a lot of tourists come here to ride horses, bikes, walk in the mountains, canoe or to indulge in rafting experiences.
Taos has no airport, so the most convenient way to move to the city is by plane to the nearest airport "Albuquerque Sunport". From there the road is picturesque and about 3 hours by car.
The main square in Taos is a great place for walking and pictures. Around it and its neighbouring streets rise the beautiful houses of adobe, which in past centuries were homes of prominent citizens. Today most of these houses are galleries, boutiques and various shops.
Some of the houses near the square belonged to the creators of the art colony or other important figures and have been converted into Museums and galleries.
