Lansing is a city located in Michigan and is the capital of the state. The town is situated on the territory of two counties - Ingham and Eaton. Lansing is only the capital of the state, not the county administrative center.

The population of the city of Lansing is about 115 000 people. One of the nicknames of the city of Lansing is the heart of Michigan.

Lansing is an important cultural and educational center, the city has many schools and law faculties. The city is home to the Supreme Court of Michigan, Court of Appeal, Federal Court and the Library of Michigan. The city is home to the University of Michigan, which was founded in 1855.

Lansing, Michigan

In early 1836 two brothers from New York split the area and called the area Biddle City. Most of the land lies under water almost throughout the year. The brothers returned to New York City to sell parcels of the city that do not exist. They said that the church already has built and sold sixty-five parcels. Sixteen people bought parcels in the nonexistent city and when they arrived at the site, found that they are the victims of scammers. Some of them left the land, others are forced to stay and named the town Lansing, in honor of their native village.

Lansing had twenty inhabitants, but in 1847 State constitution required the capital to be moved to a centralized location and safely from Detroit. Detroit was too close to the British-controlled Canada. After a few days of meetings to identify the exact location for the new capital, a site was chosen, which is inhabited by twenty people - Lansing. This caused much criticism, but Lansing was recognized as the capital.

Immediately after this, the small village became a thriving city. Actually the name Lansing was obtained only in 1848, when the former Biddle City became known as the City of Michigan.

In 1859 Lansing was officially recognized as a city. Then here lived three thousand people on a total area of eighteen square miles. Crossing railway lines in Lancing reflect well on the city's economy and the increasing population. In 1879 construction began on the new Capitol building in Lansing, Michigan. The construction was carried out against the amount of over one million and half dollars.

In 1904 the city was flooded by the swollen Grand River, which claimed one life. Many buildings and bridges in the city of Grand River were destroyed by flood water.

For several decades, the city became an important industrial center, focused mainly on the automotive industry. In 1940, it appears that in a decade the city's population has increased only three hundred fifty-six men.

In 1956 the city increased its area to thirty-nine square kilometers. Ten years later, it increased to eighty-five kilometers. In 1960, on the territory of Lansing lived over a hundred thousand people. Since the beginning of the twenty-first century world famous companies, mainly in the automotive and insurance, invested millions in the city and provide hundreds of new jobs.
