Mombeltran Castle

Sierra de Gredos is a mountain range in the central part of the Iberian Peninsula. This includes a real mountain area situated between the village Avila, Csceres, Toledo and the Spanish capital Madrid. Sierra de Gredos has a state national Park because of its beautiful scenery and some very important historical monuments are located in the region.

One of the jewels in the historic part of Spain is the impressive medieval fortress Mombeltran. Its massive structure rises on a hilly course down at the foot of the Sierra de Gredos. The castle Mombeltran was built of solid rock on a square base. The castle is an ideal rectangular shape with each corner standing a flat and oval tower.

The four towers of the Castle Mombeltran do not stand out particularly of the high fence to the internal fortification, which constitutes the walls of the base of the Castle. Mombeltran has a first in low safety belt, surrounding the fortress. Castle Mombeltran has no particular main tower, however one that serves a purpose is extended and slightly larger than the others.

Mombeltran

Castle Mombeltran stands intact to this place from the time when built by the rulers of Castile in the Middle Ages and was also the favorite of Henry IV. The history of the fortress began in 1461 when it was built on the hill in Sierra de Gredos. Its solid construction and rugged in the upper part of towers still stand intact.

In the mid 15th century when the castle was built, Mombeltran was conceived not only as a "hard" defensive fortress, but it should serve as a palace, with the result that it was riched with quite luxurious furnished rooms. Today Mombeltran Castle remains one of the most impressive Italian Castle buildings.
