Historical documents confirm that they were owned by Thomas, who was the son of Shane Mac Anerhen. Before Dromoland become a family mansion of O'Brien, the property was owned by the famous Gaelic families like family McInerney.

The impressive structure of the Dromoland Castle consists of four large buildings that are interconnected. The whole castle is on an area of 375 acres. Dromoland was renovated and turned into a luxury hotel in 1962, but this does not take a complete reconstruction of the precious atmosphere of its historic past. Dromoland remains impressed by the wonderful wood carvings, stone statues, hand carved paneling, numerous inspirational paintings and antique furniture which are everywhere in the castle.

Dromoland has wonderful romantic gardens and each room in the palace has its own unique charm as there is a mix of the most modern conveniences with historic charm of Dromoland. All rooms that are available to guests have a beautiful view of the gardens with their fascinating colorful alleys, herbal plants and an amazing lake. The stone décor in the garden is the original dating from the 16th century.
