Denali National Park
Denali National Park is recognized as one of the most beautiful landscapes of our planet. With its extremely diverse flora and fauna, Denali is a place of natural habitat of many animals, some of which are endangered. Denali National Park is located in the heart of Alaska and is the proud owner of the highest peak in North America - McKinley, reaching an impressive 6193 meters.
Denali National Park is located 380 km north of Anchorage. Here, each season holds its own advantages that make it an attractive place to visit. In spring and early summer Denali visitors can admire the wild flowers and birds. In the autumn, the spectacle of red-yellow land is unique.
On June 21 the summer solstice can be observed, with almost 24-hour sunlight, which provides unique opportunities for observation of wild animals. However, the path in the Denali National Park is closed from October to late May due to snow accumulation. It is best to visit the park between May and September.
The optimal option is to take the special bus, the price of tickets ranges from 17-33 dollars, depending on the station inside the park. In the Denali National Park can camp at the Denali National Park camp site, which is located 143 km from the park’s entrance. It is open from early January until early September.
The Denali national Park has good conditions for tourists. There are places where you can stay, and at the same time one can enjoy the friendly service and wondrous landscapes. There are 17 houses built of rough and undressed logs, which offer everything necessary for a pleasant vacation. Separately, employees hold evening educational programs and inform visitors about the opportunities for observing wildlife.
Denali National Park is significant in size - it covers an area of 24, 585 sq. km., larger than Massachusetts. It has an undeniable pride and an emblem of the great Mount McKinley. Often, this giant peak is shrouded by clouds, which does not however prevent one from seeing its beauty.
Mount McKinley was named after the twenty-fifth U.S.A president, but local Athabasca Indians still call it Denali, meaning "high". Another inspiring natural phenomenon of this park is Wonder Lake, whose beauty inspired its name and whose crystal clear waters "look around" Mount McKinley.
Denali National Park is a wonderful harmony of sub-arctic tundra and taiga, glaciers , deep valleys and massive mountain peaks, and among them all, live undisturbed, grizzly bears, wolves, reindeer, elk, wild sheep, white marmots, polar ground squirrels, beavers, Tail-less rabbits , and Arctic hare, as well as many bird species and more plants.
Many of the birds, whose population is popular in Denali , migrate vast distances between places where they nest in the park and their winter habitats. In Denali National Park, one can see Partridge, Thrush, Plover (Charadriidae), Icelandic falcon (Falco rusticolus), Miowing Glarus, Bunting (Ernberiza citrinenella) and wintering in the park, Raven (Corvus cogax), Partridge (Lagopus alpinus), Magpies (Pica), Gray Jay, and others.
