Schilthorn, Eiger, Moench and Jungfrau

The beauty of the Swiss Alps is not limited to the majestic peaks of the Jungfrau, Eiger and Mönch. If you're in the area of the fairy valley Lauterbrunnen area of the Swiss Interlaken, you can not miss the fabulous mountain Schilthorn. If you are lucky and the day is calm and clear, the view of the Schilthorn is more than amazing.

Schilthorn towers in Bernese Alps, in the canton of Bern in Switzerland, above the tourist town of Mürren, located at 1650 m above sea level. The mountain village is a popular leisure destination with many opportunities for recreation – it has excellent conditions for skiing, it is a starting point for the conquest of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Nearby are other popular Swiss resorts Wengen, Isenfluh, Gimmelwald, Stechelberg and Lauterbrunnen.

Schilthorn itself reaches 2970 m altitude. The panorama of the height of the mountain spans three popular peaks, including Titlis, reaching 3238 m altitude on the border between Bern and Obwalden, Mount Jura, which is a small mountain range north of the Alps, separating the rivers Rhine and Rhone. Looking from Schilthorn, your gaze has a chance of even reaching the majestic Mont Blanc with its 4695 m altitude at 110 km in a straight line.

To get to the top of the valley Schilthorn, you must take a series of cable cars. Shtehelberg lifts lead to Gimerwald and finally Mürren. From here, take another gondola to Birg, which is the last shift before reaching Schilthorn. This is the longest of all cable transitions. To diversify, you can take the railway and the panoramic Grütschalp to Mürren and then use the final lift to Schilthorn. During the journey to the top, tourists pass through the small lake Grauseeli.

The more difficult option is to climb Schilthorn with a hike from of Gimerwald. There are several small tourist routes that are well marked. The transition to the summit takes about 5 hours if you're an experienced traveler. Schilthorn has a popular panoramic restaurant with rotating platform, called Piz Gloria, where they filmed part of the scenes of a James Bond movie. The platform of the restaurant rotates 360 degrees in about 55 minutes.

Schilthorn is where the oldest ski race in the world is held. In 1928 Mount Schilthorn becomes the starting point of the longest downhill ski contest in the world, known as Inferno, which is held to this day. During the descent, you pass a distance of 2200 m, and the race ends at Hotel Schützen in Lauterbrunnen.
