Situated on a beautiful bend of the big Vltava River, Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic. Prague is the largest and one of the most precious historical cities across the country. The Czech capital is almost halfway between Berlin and Vienna, and lies on the seven hills, ending with the castles and churches in the tops. The whole town is dominated by Prague Castle, which stands on the spectacular west coast of the river. Prague is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world and as such is a highly visited tourist destination.

The history of Prague began thousands of years ago. During the reign of Charles IV, the Holy Roman Emperor and King of Germany, built the most magnificent churches and palaces in Prague. After the World War Czechoslovakia was created with the capital Prague. This alliance comes under the Nazi occupation in 1939 and during World War II, when many Jews were killed in the Holocaust. In 1945, after the uprising and assistance by the Soviet Army, Prague was released and became the capital of the Czech Republic under the Communist political control of the Soviet Union.

In 1967 occurred the so called Prague Spring, which seeked innovation by institutions of democracy. The response was related to the occupation of Czechoslovakia and its capital. In 1968 after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Czechoslovakia could again start its program. After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, Prague became the capital of the new Czech Republic.

The castle in Prague is undoubtedly one of the biggest attractions in the city. It is the largest complex in Europe, representing a medieval castle. Its medieval architecture is well preserved today. The first building at the site of today's castle was built here during the early 9th century. In the 12th century in this place appeared a Roman palace. After about two centuries later, during the dominance of Charles IV in the 14th century the fortress was transformed into a Gothic style.

At the very Palace in Prague there are several historical buildings. Particularly noteworthy is the beautiful Saint Vitus Cathedral, which is one of the fundamental structures here. The construction of this church began in 1344, and today inside it you can see the tomb of Saint Vatsislav whose walls are covered with precious stones and images from his biography.

Furthermore, other parts of the palace, which are of interest are the smaller noble buildings, Lobkowicz Palace, Golden Lane, supplemented by observation towers, several museums and art galleries and an exquisite monastery.

Charles Bridge in Prague

Outside the gates of the castle in Prague is located the Sternberg Palace. Today it houses the National Gallery in which exposes the great works of art from different times of old masters.

The walls of the castle in Prague are located in the neighborhood of the Little Quarter, where you can visit the beautiful Cathedral of St. Nicholas, and many more ancient buildings. Obligatory for every visitor to Prague is to pass over the Charles Bridge. It was built in 1357, and has a magnificent view of the old town of Prague, which is an amazing tangle of narrow cobblestone streets and beautiful avenues.

The center of Prague is also remarkable for its huge stone square. Howling around it and surrounding are the eight towers, and among them are quite beautiful churches and palaces, which deserves to be considered a visit. Among the major attractions in Prague are still the old town, the Old New Synagogue, garden Wallenstein, Troy castle, astronomical clock and The Lennon Wall.
