Custer State Park is located in the Black Hills Mountain, in the U.S.A state of South Dakota. This beautiful place, full of landscapes, historical monuments and colorful wildlife covers 29 000 hectares between Mount Rushmore and the National Park Wind Cave.

The most convenient way to get to Custer State Park is to first land at nearest airport near Rapid City, where form there it is easy to get onto the interstate highway number 90 or you can take the "Needles" highway.

If you choose to travel on the Needles highway, you will be able to travel under the overhanging rocks, which are known as needles, the biggest of them - Needles Eye. This granite boulder points up to 9 meters high and measures 12 meters wide. Besides huge granite peaks, Custer National Park offers beautiful views of the oval mountain foot, hilly meadows and large lakes.

One of the main tourist attractions in the park is the memorial monument to Crazy Horse, who is known as the fifth face in the Black Hills after the images of former U.S. presidents. Work on the sculpture is still in progress and is the work of sculptor Korchak Ziolkowski, who was hired to portray the famous Indian chief Crazy Horse. The base of the monument was laid back in 1948

When finished, it will be the highest sculpture in the world with its 172 m height. The monument will be of the Indian Chief, saddled on his horse, pointing with his hand towards Black Hills. At present the figure of the Indian Chief is ready and work on the horse’s image is in progress.

The reason behind this monument is to remind white Americans that Indian people are part of their historical past.

Another interesting place to visit is the Museum of North American Indians in Crazy Horse where there is a large number of Native American artwork. This collection is one of the largest in the country.

Among the tourist attractions here is the elevation of the 2207 meter high Mount Harney, mountain biking, horseback riding, rock climbing and fishing. There is an opportunity for a jeep tour that allows you to view wildlife, especially that of bison.
