Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park was the first national park in the world, officially announced this back in 1872 by U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant. Covering an area of 8980 square kilometers, Yellowstone is located in the northwestern parts of the United States, mainly in the territory of Wyoming, but also covers parts of Montana and Rocky Mountains in Idaho.

This park, which has the status of a biosphere reserve from UNESCO, with the status of a World Heritage Site is the largest national park in America. The ecosystem is rich and diverse, including many lakes, as well as the river.

The highest point of the region is marked by Eagle Peak, which reaches 3462 m altitude, and the lowest part is at Reese Creek, located about 1610 m altitude.

One of its biggest attractions are the volcanic rocks of black obsidian, but arguably the most attractive for tourists remain the numerous geysers and hot water groups.

The largest and tallest geyser is "Steamboat", but most attractive is the geyser "Old Faithful", which is located in the upper geyser basin. Its name comes from the accuracy with which it erupts. An eruption can shoot between 14 and 32 000 liters of water, at a height of 30 to 55 meters and usually lasts between 1.5 and 5 minutes.

In the park is located an active volcano, which produces an annual average of about 2000 Earthquakes.

Waterfalls which can be seen here are about 290 in number, the largest of them is lower River Falls Yellowstone. Its height reaches about 100 m. In the reserve is also found one of the largest petrified forests in the world and one of the hugest calderas, with a size of 72 to 48 km.

Among the outdoor activities that can be practiced here are fishing, camping, boating or hiking. There is practically no wrong time of the year when you can visit Yellowstone, because hereit is beautiful in winter and summer months alike.
