Umaid Bhawan Palace is one of the most spectacular buildings from all over India. The incredibly impressive, massive and beautiful Umaid Bhawan Palace is considered to be the last ruler of the palaces of India and at the same time it is one of the largest private residences worldwide.
The huge and opulent Umaid Bhawan Palace dominates the desert district of the capital of the Indian province of Rajasthan - Jodhpur.
The complex is named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, who is the grandfather of current owner Umaid Bhawan. Part of the palace is under the direction of the "Taj Hotels", which turned the castle into one of the finest hotels in India.
Umaid Bhawan Palace is built on the highest place in this world in the Indian region.
It was built of golden yellow sandstone and in the current time when it was constructed it was considered, Art Deco. The construction of the palace began in 1928 and was finalized 15 years later - in 1943. After that time the palace was used as the official residence for the royal family of Jodhpur.
The project and the construction of the magnificent Umaid Bhawan Palace was the work of architect Henry Lanchester, resulting in the Indian palace becoming an amazing mixture of Eastern and Western architectural styles.
The whole complex is spread over 10.5 hectares with adjacent beautiful gardens. Umaid Bhawan Palace has 347 rooms and all the rooms are furnished and decorated in a unique way. More than 5000 employees toil tirelessly to create the grand complex.
The construction of the castle covers an area of 1.4 hectares, and everything else remains the wonderful park. Intriguing is the fact that the Umaid Bhawan Palace was designed and built so that inside was always a temperature of 23 degrees.
Particularly impressive in architectural terms is the 32 meter tall dome, which was a wonderful example of revival influence in architecture.
No less attractive are the towers that were built in the spirit of traditional Rajput. The entire project cost the Maharaja 10 million dollars. In the interior of the premises there is also the spirit of the Art Deco style that is complemented with beautiful exotic murals, which are the work of Polish artist Stefan Norblin.
Within the hotel of Umaid Bhawan, guests can choose among 64 luxurious rooms and suites. Today Umaid Bhawan is a favorite location for various private celebrations such as weddings and anniversaries, but also for conferences that may be held either in the internal halls or in the lovely garden.
