Sternberg Palace

Sternberg Palace is an amazing baroque castle in the Czech Republic. Actually Sternberg is one of the surroundings of Prague Castle. It is a wonderful example of the highest and required step in Baroque architecture, and its brilliant interior decoration is something that can never be forgotten.

Today the Sternberg Palace is used by the National Gallery Prague, and here you can see some of the best works of world famous European masters. The Sternberg Palace can be reached easily from the Palace Square in Prague.

Exposures in the Sternberg Palace open doors to the public after renovation in 2002 and 2003. In the three-storey palace and its beautiful halls and corridors we can see works of art from the classical era to the late Baroque era, as most have pictures of 14 and 18 century.

The palace itself was built between 1697 and 1707 for Count Wenceslas Adalbert. As part of the National Gallery in Prague, Sternberg Palace opened back in 1949.

7-8 years Sternberg is a real delight for anyone who loves art. The first part of the exhibition includes works of art Ancient Greece and Rome. On the first floor of the palace can be seen popular works from the period between 14 and 16 century, are from the collection of Archduke Franz Ferdinand d'Este.

Here are pictures of large Tuscan masters like Lorenzo Monaco, works of Venetian art school, masterpieces of Florentine artists A. Bronzino, A. Allori.

On the second floor of the palace are the works of Italian, Spanish, French and Dutch masters from 16 to 18th century. Here, anyone who visits the Sternberg Palace can detect remarkable paintings of great artists such as Tintoretto, Ribera, Tiepolo, El Greco, Goya, Rubens and Van Dyck.

Collections of Flemish and Dutch masters are represented by works of Rembrandt, Hals, Terborch and van Goyen. All of them are of very high quality. On this floor Sternberg could be considered original and made by the 19 th century cabinet that reminds Collector Josef Hoser, whom the National Gallery in Prague for a substantial proportion of the paintings.

On the ground floor of the Sternberg Palace we can see the exhibition of German and Austrian artists, most dating back lanes between 16th-century and18th century. Among the beautiful paintings you'll see some of the most famous works of European painting, such as "The Feast of the Rosary" by Albrecht Dürer.

The painting was completed in Venice in 1506 and was later purchased and transported to Prague by Emperor Rudolf II.

Besides beautiful works of fine art throughout the halls of the Sternberg Palace we can see the amazing paintings, various collections of small statues and sculptures from different periods.
