Johannisburg Castle is one of the most important fortresses in the Renaissance period in Germany. It is located in the city of Aschaffenburg , which is located only 40 km from Frankfurt. The renaissance castle is considered a symbol of the city and is one of the main attractions in the German town in the area around it. Johannisburg Castle is picturesquely situated on the Main River.

The whole town is surrounded by forests and hills of the Odenwald. That in itself offers many opportunities for trekking and hiking, it is one of the favorite destinations for recreation at the weekend for many Germans.

Johannisburg Castle is an important Renaissance Center. It was built over a period of 9 years between 1605-1614 by Georg Ridinger. Until 1803 the palace served as a second official residence and seat of the archbishops of Mainz.

Today in the castle you can see the wonderful exhibitions of works of art and works of Lucas Cranach. This exposure is attributed to the Bavarian State Gallery. Among other attractions of Johannisburg Castle is the Westminster Church in which is exposed to religious canonicals of Mainz Cathedral Treasury.

One of the most impressive attractions in Johannisburg is the exhibition of different models, made of cork. This unusual exhibition is considered the largest collection in the world of architectural models made of cork material.

When the city's defenses are no longer necessary, the pit and firewalls along the river to the Johannisburg Castle were converted to vineyards, fruit and vegetable gardens. 1782 was the year they built and called a medium sized building called Morning Church for breakfast, perched on the cliff above the River Main high cliff.

Three years later, Archbishop of Mainz and Friedrich Karl made the transformation of the landscape in the lovely garden. Today its arcades are covered with beautiful paintings of plants. On the back of the Johannisburg Castle lies an interesting, which is quite attractive to visitors with its trees planted in straight rows.
