Oxnard is a city located in the territory of California. It is the largest city within the Ventura County. Oxnard is an important agricultural center and is a leader in the production of strawberries. The population of the city of Oxnard is about 198 000 people.

Oxnard is located on a territory of one hundred and two square kilometers. Oxnard is a city famous for its fertile land. The city has dunes, beaches and beautiful streams, which makes it an attractive destination for tourists.

Many years ago, the place where Oxnard is located today, lived Native American tribe of Chumash. The first settlers in the area were Portuguese, led by researcher Joao Rodrigues Cabrilho, in the sixteenth century. In 1782, at the site of today's Oxnard was founded the Mission of San Buenaventura.

In the late nineteenth century, U.S. farmers began to cultivate various crops on the fertile land in the area.

The town is named after the Oxnard brothers who were owners of a factory for processing of sugar. They lived in Chino and have never lived in the city that bears their name. The plant flourished from 1899 to 1959.

In 1898, a railway station was built in Oxnard. This city attracted many Chinese, Mexican and Japanese workers.

In 1903, Oxnard was officially recognized as a town. In 1907 the first public library opened doors. During World War II in the city were built naval bases. This led to the rapid development of the communication industry.

In the mid-twentieth century Oxnard quickly developed and grew, its suburbs had more houses under construction. Channel Islands Harbor was built. Impressive buildings were built, like the Topa Financial Plaza, Esplanade Shopping Mall and Carriage Square Shopping Center.

In 2004, local police launched a fierce fight against organized crime in order to reduce it.

Oxnard, and other cities in California are at risk from earthquakes. In July 1994 the city was shaken by the Northridge earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.7.

In October 2009 there was an earthquake of magnitude 3.2, and in April 2010 the city was undulating from a 2.9 quake. A month later there was an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9.
