Between 1405 and 1421 the fortress was designated by the property owners of two lines of noble families. Emperor Sigismund had deep trust of the family and in 1415 the settlement around the castle received a town status. At that time the whole city was fortified, as today, part of the fence wall and the tower can be seen.
In 1607 the southern wing of the Schwarzenberg castle was destroyed by a fire. In the same year began the reconstruction project of the Elias Hall, who worked with the most famous masters of Augsburg. The creators of the mayoralty Nuremberg city hall, Jakob Wolff and his son were the actual contractors of the project.
In 1616 the Schwarzenberg castle was finally restored. Around 1702 a little over Schwarzenberg there was an old chapel in the name of St. Mary. Between 1732 and 1735 this old church was turned into a large monastery. The church was the work of the famous- Balthasar Neumann.
